An annual tradition in the kitchens at More? has begun - the baking of Oma’s Stollen which can only mean one thing, Christmas is coming (small dance, big smile, jolly hand rubbing). The Oma referred to in the title,or Grandma for the non german speakers, is Val. This is the same amazing lady who gives her name to the restored 1952 vintage Artofex mixer at the very heart of our bakery.
We bake to Val’s traditional German recipe with an added twist from Patrick - a spiral of homemade almond paste which infuses moisture through the whole loaf. Oh we can almost hear the carol singers!
Anyway, as we love all things Christmas this got us wondering, what other delights can we give the More-treatment to?. It turns out the list is almost endless! Oh we had a lot of fun creating this little selection: Coffee with christmas syrup; bramble jams; quirky mince pies; sloe and damson gin (we had to try them, it was rude not too.. hic); boozy Christmas cakes; table dressings and vinegars; Dave’s Mum’s Puddings (they really need to be tasted to be believed) and oh so many cakes.
Not wanting to be selfish, we thought we'd better share our Christmas discoveries with the world. We feel there is a perfect hamper combination in there somewhere, perhaps chutney and cheese selections or a boozy box with cakes and christmas drinks, we’ll let you decide.
If you want us to package up a selection of sensational seasonal delights, please get in touch soon. If we keep sampling at this rate we won’t have any left to sell… hic.
