Patrick’s Summer in the Saddle

Patrick in the saddle

When Patrick isn’t busy baking he’s most likely to be found on two wheels, cycling the highways and byways of Cumbria. This summer, however, he pushed a little harder to complete two phenomenal rides to raise money for two extremely deserving charities.

In July Patrick embarked on Ride London, a 100 mile challenge culminating in the notorious Box Hill climb 70 miles in. Not to diminish the challenge, but after a lifetime practicing on Wrynose and Hardknott mountain passes, we don’t know what Patrick was worried about. Obviously, as Patrick pointed out, that’s quite easy for us to say whilst sat on the sidelines cheering and eating cake. Good point.

Anyway, Patrick did us proud and finished in a seriously good time of 5 hours. Not only that, raised a sizeable amount for Shelter, an organisation that helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness.

Not content with just one herculean feat, Patrick then completed the Rapha Manchester to London ride - 220 miles in a single day to raise money for the charity organisation, Ambitious about Autism. This charity began as a group of parents who decided to start a school and campaign for change because they never wanted children’s potential to be compromised. It’s a cause that’s close to Patrick’s heart and of many of our customers.

Patrick completed the 220 mile journey and beat his time from last year, possibly because he didn’t get lost this year and increase the distance by 27 miles (we kid you not!). He, and many of the riders paid tribute to Cheryl Frost and the excellent team who organised the ride logistics along with the fabulous caterers who supplied the on route catering…. yes, you guessed it, that was us at More? Bakery! You didn’t really expect a whole blog without a generous helping of foodie indulgence, did you?. Treats designed to increase pedal power were: mini sourdough croissants and patisseries; mini cumberland sausage rolls; birchers; proper cumbrian pies; while chocolate blondies; sunshine flapjacks and of course muddees, almost worth popping on the lycra and cycling 220 miles for on their own.

So now that the winter has set in and the dark nights are upon us we just know that our very own superman is secretly planning his 2016 summer of challenges. Any ideas? Suggestions on a postcard to the elves at more bakery please.
